An Extended Holiday to the Eastern Hemisphere

Kodak Ektar 100 Film - Thailand

This spring I had the fortunate opportunity to travel to 4 different countries for a little over a month. I purchased a few rolls of Kodak Ektar 100 Professional exclusively to use while I was abroad. I used the film with my Canon AE-1 Program. I mainly took photos in bright outside settings as it was late summer and just extremely hot in most of the places that I visited. I only used one lens which was 75-150mm.

Home Sweet Home with the Pentax K1000

44_110002020017For the most part I test out cameras, clean them and then list them on Etsy so they can find new homes. Sometimes I love my tested cameras so much that I add an extra roll inside of them and see if I can take more amazing shots. Then I wind up selling the camera and I have half a roll still inside that I need to shoot. That’s what happened with this particular roll. I had a customer that really needed the camera ASAP, so I shot the rest of the roll inside my apartment.

Review – Scent Trunk Subscription Service

When I first started my blog I use to review some of the sub boxes that I subscribed to, but I mainly cancelled most since moving and have not had time to look into getting back into them. I’m considering taking a look soon and seeing what’s out there again and what can work for my new work from how lifestyle.Scent TrunkScent Trunk is a perfume sampling subscription box that sends you niche fragrances every month. When you sign up, you take a scent profile quiz to help them suggest recommendations for you to try. You can also type in other perfume brands that you like to help with their selections.  You then can rate the fragrances that you receive to help further tailor your future selections as well as earning reward points that you can redeem for coupons. I usually don’t have a huge arsenal of fragrances that I use on a daily basis so this subscription is nice to get a taste of the high end brands that I generally do not have access to.

Getaway Outfits and Respective Cameras

This weekend I am going away on a mini holiday to Los Angeles, which is actually just a short 5 1/2 hour drive from the Bay Area. I have several friends that live in the area and have yet to make the trek out there since moving to the bay about 10 months ago. So I decided it was time to make the effort to get down there to see what it is all about (in all my travels I have only seen the LA airport, but never the city itself!!!)

Julep – March 2013 It Girl Maven Box Review

This month’s Julep box was a little different for me as I went with the It Girl box instead of my usual Boho Glam. I was not as interested in the beauty products so I took having 3 nail colors instead of the lotion that they were offering. Each month you receive a goodie box of Julep products that consist of 2 nail polishes plus another item that can either be another nail polish or a beauty item such a a lotion or mascara. The items are promised to be a value of $40 or more. The items that are sent to you are based on a quiz that you take that makes you out to be one of four categories. You are sent an email the 20th of each month that gives you a preview of what is coming next month and you have between the 24-27th to change what you would like to another of the categories, send it to a friend or simply cancel that month. On top of the subscription you receive 20% off all of their items and free shipping for being a member and every month you can have add on’s to your box for a low as $5.

So as I mentioned before this month they sent 3 nail colors plus a surprise extra of strawberry lip balm. Julep It Girl Maven Box SONY DSC

The colors that were featured in the It Girl box were Simone, which was a lillac color, Shenae, a minty green shimmery color and Teri, a soft pastel coral color. All of them were a pastel chalky kind of pallet that are perfect for spring.

The bonus beauty item this month was a very practical strawberry flavored pink tinted lip balm. It is a nice size, but thin enough to be able to able to carry around with you, either stashed in your purse or in your pocket. It goes on very creamy and keeps your lips super moist. I used it one day walking around Boston and it was very nice to have handy.

This was a good box with colors that are pleasing to the eye and a useful beauty product that I will actually use. The value of the box came out to about $48 which is worth the cost of the subscription.

I have tried using the Simone and Shenae colors on my nails, but I am finding them to be very goupy and hard to control. I actually gave up on the Simone because I was always getting built up areas of polish. The Shanae was better, but still the same consistency. I was able to get a good coat below and I finished it off with the Julep Freedom Polymer Coat on top! Perfect for St. Paddy’s day coming up.

Julep – February Boho Glam Maven Box Review

Last week I received my Julep box, and I was very excited about all of it’s latest goodies. I actually love the colors as well as the “extras”. Julep Maven is a monthly subscription box that cost $20 per month. This month they sent 2 nail colors, a nail treatment, a special top coat, an eye lash curler and some heart shaped chocolates!

February Julep Boho Glam Box

The colors that were featured in the Boho Glam box were Julianne, which was a blue grey color, and Ingrid, a burnt orange color. Both are lovely, though I will likely used the Ingrid in the fall more than any other season.

Value: $14 each

There was also a Oxygen Nail Treatment bottle which is said to be complete nail care and make-up all in one bottle. Made with a patented Hexanal formulation, nails are restructured to a stronger, thicker, and smoother condition in just one stroke. I have yet to try it, so I am not sure how well it works. Also included as a bonus is Julep’s new Freedom Polymer Top Coat. It is suppose to leave a gel like look, but cures in natural light and in about 5 minutes. I recently used it with my latest manicure and it is actually lasting much longer!

Value: $18 each

The last item is a bonus beauty item of a small cute eyelash curler with some tips on how to use it. Perfect to just throw into your purse or makeup bag on the go. It is made out of plastic and easy to use. I tried it and it works well similar to regular metal eyelash curlers.

Value: $5

Overall I was very happy with this box. The colors were nice and the treatment and top coat were excellent. The eyelash curler was also a nice extra. The box was well worth more than the $20 spent.

Below is my first use of the Julianne nail color with the Freedom Polymer Top coat. The color is nice for the season and easily goes with many of my outfits. The top coat gives it a nice shine and I have lasted a full 3 days without having it chip.

Julep – November Boho Glam Maven Box Review

Julep Maven

I receive my Boho Glam Box from Julep a few days ago, and I was pretty excited.  Julep Maven is a monthly subscription box that cost $20 per month. On top of the subscrition you receive 20% off all of their items and free shipping for being a member and every month you can have add on’s to your box for a low as $5.

This month I received two nail polishes, and body lotion, 3 sample nail polish remover pads and a coupon.

Polish Remover

The box with came with “extra goodies” of One-Step Polish Remover Pads. I have not tested them out so I will have to write about them in a later post. As samples they are a good way to test if you are interested in the full size product without having to buy the entire thing.

Value: $1

Julep Body Lotion

The lotion was called Body Frosting and it smelled good and doesn’t go on greasy. I think it is of good value, but I generally do not buy fancy lotions. This was great as an the extra beauty item as I would not normally buy it for myself.

Value: $18

Julep Maven Polish

The nail polishes I received this month are from their suede collection and they dry quickly with a matte finish.  The burgundy wine color is called Minka and the Silver Tone color is Brit. They are really nice fall colors and can have a nice sheen to them if you add a top coat. These are good for all ranges of users as they are easy to apply and are fast drying.

Value: $14 each x 2 = $28

Information on the values of items as taken from the Julep.com site. I had no idea on the pad removers, so I made an estimate. The estimated total value comes to about $47, so pretty good! The picture above is my nails done with the Minka polish and a clear top coat. The color right now is big for fall so it was a pretty excellent choice. Overall I was happy with the selection and will continue to be a member. If you like this post and really want to join please use the link below to subscribe to give me some credit! Umba Box – November Review

I have recently got into this kick where I am obsessed with subscription boxes. In the last 2 months I have managed to subscribe to 3.  They are currently for Umba Box, Julep and for Popsugar Must Have. Yesterday I received my second Umba Box which contains handmade goodies. The says that they will send you 2-3 modern and whimsical handmade products every month. The cost is about $25 a month plus  shipping and they claim to give you at least $25 worth of items. I subscribed for 3 months during a deal where they offered 1 month free for a total of 4 months. The deal was done through their facebook page so I highly recommend that you connect with them to see what goodies they are offering.

http://www.facebook.com/umbabox

So for the unveiling of the November Box you can see all the goodies inside in the above picture. This box contained 3 smaller items that consisted of candy, a hardback notebook and a set of clothed pins.

Starting with the biggest item the Notebook is very cute and it is made by To Boldly Fold. It is about 5 by 3.5″ in size and has a hard cover. Looking at both her stores on her website and Etsy I am not able to exactly price the value of this notebook. It seems to be a specially made order for Umbra, but based on her other items I would price this at about $18-20.

You can find her other items at the links below:

The next item was a set of 6 decorated clothes pins from Earth Cookie Creations. These are nice to have to hang maybe pictures or reminders on a string in your home. They also come with handy magnets on the back so you can stick them on your fridge or any other metal surface.  Too bad my fridge is not magnet, otherwise they would be been used there.  Based on her Etsy store, where she hand makes other paper items like pin wheels and note cards,  it looks like the cost of these clothes pins would be about $4.

You can find some of her other products in her Etsy store below:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/EarthCookieCreations

Last but not least was this tiny bag The Caramel Jar. It contained 3  handmade and wrapped Fleur de Sel Caramels. The label claims that they are 8 oz, but it was more like 2-3 oz. Nonetheless these tasted amazing and were just enough to get you hooked. I gave a try to my boyfriend and he had to have a whole piece to himself. On comparing the size of the bag and what is in her Etsy shop, they are about the size of her wedding sample pack which has a value of $3.50.

You can see more of her creations in her Etsy shop below:

Overall this was a good box and total value came out to about $25. I think it was worth it considering you would have to pay shipping for any of the items, and it’s nice to get a mix of different things.

Can’t wait for the December Box!
