This weekend I am going away on a mini holiday to Los Angeles, which is actually just a short 5 1/2 hour drive from the Bay Area. I have several friends that live in the area and have yet to make the trek out there since moving to the bay about 10 months ago. So I decided it was time to make the effort to get down there to see what it is all about (in all my travels I have only seen the LA airport, but never the city itself!!!)
One of the other reasons I am heading to LA is that I am also taking engagement photos for a friend and I have been given full liberties to take whatever type of photos I want! So keep an eye out in the future for that post as I plan on taking photos on film as well as digital. This idea of having to take a range of cameras made me think about what I need to pack and how they were all going to correspond with each other. I want to be able to take clothes I can move in, but still be stylish. It is a vacation after all. I am trying to have a planned out session with them as well as just taken candid photos while we are out and about the town.
The first outfit that I thought about was all about the BEACH!! I have been living in California for almost a whole year and I have yet to go swimming here. Didn’t realize that the Bay Area consists of mainly fog and cold sea water… Anyways, I have heard from the television and the interwebs that LA is a prime place to go swimming. At a minimum I am taking 2 swimsuits that I can mix and match and go well with my cover up. I have decided that this year is my maxi dress year. I love the combination of this black maxi made by Blue Life with a retro high waisted bikini. The pinks and whites play off of the dress when it pokes through from underneath. Since I will be playing in the ocean I figure I should take my Canon A1 for some actual underwater shots. I have reviewed this camera before, but capturing the right photos while in the water has somewhat eluded me. This is going to be my chance!! At least this next week. You can see the review of the camera with above photos at this link Canon A1 SureShot Review
So besides testing my Canon A1 I was also thinking of taking my Minolta Weathermatic Dual 35. It is essentially the 35mm version of the Minolta Weathermatic-A Pocket 110 which I have reviewed here.
My second outfit if more practical and is put together with having to go out and work at taking engagement photos. The top is white (might get dirty), but as a whole, the set is comfortable and you can never go wrong with flats. The jeans are a relaxed kind of boyfriend fit and are easy to move around in just in case I have to kneel of jump on to places. I have paired this look with my old original SX-70 Polaroid camera and some rainbow hued framed Impossible Project Film. One day I’ll do a review of the Original folding SX-70.
My last outfit is a more dressy, but still has summer in mind. It’s another maxi dress from the H&M that is down the street from me. I love the simple black and white pattern and that you can add small or large pops of color to it. I decided on some strappy white heels for this outfit for maybe a day to night look, just add a denim jacket or cardigan if it gets cold. I added a belt at the waist to give my shape more definition and a chunky silver necklace. I paired this look up with my Honeywell Pentax SP1000. I think the camera may take some nice engagement photos with a great field of depth. You can read a review on the camera at this link Honeywell Pentax SP1000 Camera.
Of course I will also be taking my digital SLR to capture the majority of the engagement photos, but I think some great shots will come out the film cameras. I will post about it as soon as the photos are developed, so stay tuned 🙂 or better yet subscribe.
